Empowering Aspiring Professionals
Our members volunteer thousands of hours each year to our Outreach Partners: non-profit organizations dedicated to developing the next generation of leaders and opening career pathways to underrepresented groups. In doing so, we directly impact peoples’ lives while elevating our own professional profiles.
Participate in Outreach Programs
As a SIM member, you can participate in the numerous programs that our Outreach Committee organizes throughout the year. Share your knowledge, experience, and passion with people all over the world, ranging from K-12 students to veterans and other adults who are changing careers.
Serve as a panelist at Outreach Partner events, alongside other senior technology leaders
Arrange for your company to host Outreach Partner student workshops either on-line or in-person
Volunteer to mentor a student or group, lead resume workshops, conduct mock interviews, or provide virtual coaching
Be a mentor or judge for Technovation Girls, where nearly 10,000 girls, ages 8-18, from around the world work in teams to build mobile apps that address real-world problems in their communities
Judge the FIRST ® Robotics Competition, where teams of high school students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game
Arrange for your company to donate retired equipment to non-profits that need it
Volunteer On The Outreach Committee
SIM New York Metro is committed to “Giving Back” through the generosity of our members, our member companies, and our sponsors. Through alliances and partnerships with non-profit organizations as well as direct relationships with individuals and companies, we craft programs that provide our members with opportunities to share their impressive experiences and resources with those who will benefit the most, helping them navigate their careers and achieve their professional goals. Organizing these programs takes a lot of work; and as the saying goes, “Many hands make light work.”
As a SIM member, you have a unique opportunity to help other people while elevating your professional profile. Our members have been featured for their volunteer work in numerous articles, podcasts, and events.
Have an Impact
We positively impact peoples’ lives by donating our time. In 2023, our members volunteered over 2,000 hours in supporting our Outreach Programs.
We also donate money to our Outreach Partners. SIM New York Metro is a volunteer-run 501(c)(6) non-profit membership association; every dollar of profit that we make from membership dues, event ticket purchases, and vendor sponsorships is also donated to our Outreach Partners.
SIM Foundation, our national 501(c)(3) charitable organization, matches our donations. And you can make your own personal, tax-deductible donations directly to SIM Foundation.
Over the years, we have donated tens of thousands of dollars to organizations like NPower, Technovation Girls, and Volunteers of America. There's so much more that we can do with your help!
